Virtual Midi Router

Virtual Midi Router Software Free WiFi Hotspot Share v.12.2.9 Free WiFi Hotspot Share is a portable hotspot creator to turn your laptop a virtualWiFi router. It makes sharing network a reality by setting customized ID & passwords so that an unlimited number of authorized people can enjoy the shared WiFi. Skip Sony's Virtual Midi router. I've tried it and it doesn't work on my WinXP machine. I think they stopped supporting it. I battled with it and never got it to work after following the steps to the T. Go and get Midi Yoke instead. I uninstalled VMR and installed Midi Yoke and it worked as it should.

Virtual MIDI driver for Windows 7 up to Windows 10, 32 and 64 bit with the ability to dynamically create and destroy freely nameable MIDI-ports.

The necessity for virtualMIDI came along when I implemented my rtpMIDI-driver. Later I also used this driver when I created loopMIDI for people who only need simple loopback MIDI-ports.

I had some pretty specific requirements:

• Compatibility from Windows XP to Windows 10
• Both 32bit and 64bit operation
• On-the-fly creation (and destruction) of freely nameable virtual MIDI-ports
• Only one side of the ports was supposed to be visible to the public
• The other side only visible via a private interface
• Multi-client-capability

Since I had been hanging around on the wdmaudiodev mailinglist for quite some time due to my interest in kernel-streaming, I had already read quite a bit on the topic over there.

All of the people there suggested to use the DMusUart and the MPU401 sample as a starting-point. So that's what I did and creating the actual driver had been not too hard after getting enough insights at the WDK-documentation.

Nevertheless all the stuff people had done prior to my attempts would not quite achieve what my requirement were.

Archicad 22 build 3004 download free. All of those other virtual MIDI miniport driver implementations actually developed simple static 'loopback' MIDI-ports. Loopback meaning that both ends of this port would be public. Static meaning that the number of ports and their names would be fixed at install-time of the driver (via the inf-file of the driver).

Virtual Midi Router

This was not satisfactory, so I looked some more and I found references to dynamic creation of sub-devices. But this was a hard nut to crack. Finally I had been able to locate a guy who was doing something similar for a virtual soundcard-driver for digital-audio-broadcast.

His insights have been invaluable. It still took quite some time to get everything going smoothly, but I finally succeeded in creating this driver.

One problem remained: Since Microsoft introduced Vista, all drivers for 64bit need to be code-signed. Though the idea itself is pretty nifty – to know the specific company that the code running in the kernel comes from – it had a severe drawback:

Only companies incorporated could apply for such a code-signing-certificate. Many people in the driver-development-community urged Microsoft to rectify this. And finally in May of 2010 it has been done. Since that time it is also possible for individuals to get their own code-signing certificate to be able to run their drivers on the 64bit versions of Vista and Windows 7.

The driver is currently part of the rtpMIDI-driver network-MIDI driver and the loopMIDI virtual loopback MIDI cable. But it can be used for other tasks as well.

If you have a music-application that needs to create its own freely named MIDI-devices on-the-fly – virtualMIDI is exactly the right tool. I have prepared a small & simple to use SDK with bindings for C/C++, Delphi, Java and C#.

The Virtual MIDI Router from Sony acts like a virtual MIDI cable. It allows you to route MIDI inputs and outputs as if you had real hardware MIDI ports with a MIDI cable between them. ACID Pro, Vegas Pro, and other MIDI applications will think these ports are real MIDI interfaces and allow you to assign other software like the Bome Mouse Keyboard to an input just like it was a real hardware MIDI keyboard with a MIDI cable attached. It's a very handy device so lets see how to install it.

Picsart phone number. Software Needed for this tutorial can be downloaded from the Sony Creative Software Download Utilities web site:

The instructions for the Virtual MIDI Router for Windows NT and Windows 2000 are included in the download package from Sony. This tutorial is for people who are running Windows XP which is not covered in Sony's instructions:

  1. Download the Virtual MIDI Router from the Sony website and expand the ZIP file to reveal the WinNT folder. You will need to find this later in Step 10 when we install the driver.
  2. Go to: Start > Control Panel and double-click on Add Hardware. (Note: you must be in Classic View to see the icons. Category View does not have this option)
  3. This brings up the Add Hardware Wizard. Click the Next button to begin.
  4. Select Yes, I have already connected the hardware. Press the Next button to continue.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the list and Select Add a new hardware device and press Next.
  6. Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced) and press Next.
  7. Scroll down the list and Select Sound, video and game controllers and then press Next.
  8. Select Have Disk… and press Next.
  9. Press the Browse button
  10. Navigate to the WinNT folder you unzipped in Step 1 and select the OEMSETUP.INF file. Press the Open button to continue.
  11. Press the OK button.
  12. Windows will complain that this driver has not passed their rigorous testing for software. (yea right!) Press Continue Anyway.
  13. If everything went right, it will have correctly found the Sonic Foundry Virtual MIDI Router (x86). Press Next to continue.
  14. Press Next to confirm that you want to install the Sonic Foundry Virtual MIDI Router (x86)
  15. Once again Windows feels compelled to warn you about unverified drivers. Once again well tell Windows that we know what we are doing and press Continue Anyway.
  16. At the Configuration dialog you get to select between 1 to 4 virtual MIDI ports. You only need one for this tutorial but feel free to select more. When you are finished selecting the number of ports, press OK to continue.
  17. Congratulations. You have successfully installed the Virtual MIDI Router. Press Finish to claim the rewards of your labor.

Oh yea, one last thing. Windows isn't as robust as a 'real' operating system like Unix so you have to reboot every time you make a change to the system. Maybe someday Linux will take over the desktop and we will never have to reboot our computers again. Until that day, Press OK and go get a cup of coffee. 😉

That's it, you're done.

Happy Recording,

Virtual midi driver windows 10
